Michael Chen is the President and CEO of Media, Communications, & Entertainment Finance (“MCE”) for GE Capital and is a Vice President and Officer of GE. Michael has primary responsibility for overseeing GE’s debt and equity financing activities to the media, communications & entertainment sectors. In addition, he founded the Peacock Equity Fund, which is a highly successful venture capital fund that focuses on investing in digital media companies that are strategic to NBC Universal (“NBCU”). Michael also sits on NBCU’s Leadership Council, and has been featured on “The Wall Street Journal Online,” and the syndicated radio program “The CEO Show” (www.theceoshowonline.com).

Michael started his career in 1985 as a financial analyst for IBM. After several different roles in finance, he moved over to IBM Credit Corporation in 1990. He held management positions in sales, finance and risk management before joining GE in 1994 as Vice President of Risk Management for GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS). After spending five years in various leadership roles, he was named Senior Vice President and General Manager, North America for GECAS in 1999, where his team was responsible for providing aircraft leases and loans to the aviation industry for the US and Canada. During the eight years in this role, he helped GECAS become the leading financing company to the aviation industry, and grew its net income 500%. Michael assumed his current position in December 2006, and was also named an Officer of the GE Company at the same time.

Michael serves on the Advisory Board for Sodexo Corporation (Paris: SW.PA) and the Board of Directors for the Norwalk Community College Foundation. In addition, he sits on the Advisory Council for the Johnson School at Cornell University and co-chairs the Diversity Council for Asia Society. Michael was named as one of the nation’s top sales and customer relationship individuals in the book “Secrets of Great Rainmakers” by best-selling author Jeffrey Fox, and he was awarded “Dealmaker of the Year” in 2008 by the New York based organization, The Executive Council. In addition, he received the Distinguished Service Award at the 2010 Commencement for Norwalk Community College.

Michael received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester in 1983 and an MBA in finance from the Johnson School at Cornell University in 1985.

Jose Ferreira founded Knewton in 2008. Previously, Jose served as an executive at Kaplan, where he led a company-wide re-engineering effort called “Project Footprint” that created the modern Kaplan course. He also developed early “adaptive learning” applications, launching courses that produced unique study plans tailored to each individual student.

Ferreira is the only person ever to have developed test prep strategies so effective that Educational Testing Services (ETS) was forced to remove an entire question type from an exam, admitting that he “broke the code.” He also reversed-engineered the scoring algorithms and question pools behind computerized tests, forcing massive revisions that ultimately improved the tests’ quality. His constant test-beating activities earned him frequent mention in the press, and the moniker “the antichrist” at the Education Testing Services.

Beyond test prep, Jose previously served as a derivatives trader at Goldman Sachs and a Partner at New Atlantic Ventures (formerly Draper Atlantic), investing in new media and SaaS companies. He was also a strategist on John Kerry’s presidential campaign, where he focused on brand strategy, this and that (you need to ask him about it). Jose graduated from Carleton College with a B.A. in Philosophy, and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Daniel Gross

Daniel Gross is a best-selling author and one of the most widely read financial and economic writers working today. He recently joined Yahoo! Finance as economics editor, columnist, and co-host of Tech Ticker.

He joined Yahoo! from Newsweek, where he was a columnist and economics editor, and Slate.com, where he wrote the Moneybox column. Before joining Newsweek in the spring of 2007, Daniel wrote the “Economic View” column in the New York Times, was a contributing writer to New York, and contributed regularly to magazines such as Fortune and Wired.

He is the author of six books, including: “Forbes Greatest Business Stories of All Time” (Wiley, 1996), a New York Times Business bestseller and a finalist for the Financial Times “Lex” award, given to the best business history book of 1996. His most recent book, Dumb Money: How Our Greatest Financial Minds Bankrupted the Nation, was published in 2009.

Daniel appears regularly in the media, and has been a guest on outlets such as CNBC, MSNBC, and National Public Radio, and the Colbert Report. A participant in the World Economic Forum, he frequently speaks on college campuses and at industry and public events.

A native of East Lansing, Michigan, Daniel graduated from Cornell University in 1989, with degrees in government and history, has an A.M. in American history from Harvard University (1991), and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Lake Forest College in 2010.

Daniel lives in Westport, Conn., with his wife and two children.

Eric Hippeau is a managing partner at Softbank Capital, a New York and Boston based venture capital fund specializing in early stage investments in technology and digital media. Eric joined Softbank Capital in 2000 from Ziff-Davis, Inc., where he was Chairman and CEO. Ziff- Davis was the preeminent media company serving the technology industry, publishing leading computer magazines such as PC Magazine and Computer Shopper and organizing media trade shows such as Comdex, among other media and marketing services in high technology. Eric joined Ziff-Davis in 1989, and he became Chairman and CEO in 1993. In 1995, SoftBank acquired Ziff-Davis, and Eric continued in the role of CEO until 2000, when the company was sold.

During his career at Ziff-Davis, Eric was early to recognize the trend toward online media. Under his stewardship, ZDNet became one of the few successful examples of a strong online business model evolving from traditional magazine content, and he was instrumental in SoftBank’s first investment in Yahoo! in 1995. Eric was also responsible for founding ZDTV, a cable channel dedicated to technology and the Internet, and an early success in integrating television and the Web. He also directed several successful magazines and marketing service launches in the technology and Internet field.

Eric was President of SoftBank International Ventures, where he established SoftBank’s international private equity funds and expanded them into Europe, Latin America and Asia.

He was also SB Capital’s board representative for its direct investments in industry leading companies, such as Yahoo!, Geocities and CNET.

His experience prior to joining Ziff-Davis includes senior executive positions at International Data Group.

Eric serves on the boards of several public and private companies, including Yahoo!, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, PureVideo, Thumbplay, Associated Content, Huffington Post, Goodmail Systems, BuddyMedia, BuzzFeed, Foomojo, and DanceJam. He is also on the investment committee for the SB Asia Infrastructure Fund.

He graduated from the Lycee Francais de Londres and attended the Sorbonne University in Paris.

Hoffman graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College and received an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and a Masters of International Studies from the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his work at M5, Hoffman is the Board President of WIBO.

Brian is an active partner at Grape Arbor, an angel investor group. Since its founding in 2006, Grape Arbor LLC has made investments into more than a dozen technology companies.

Tom holds a B.A. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University and a M.B.A. from Stanford University.
